Your physician may prescribe one of the types of catheters below for draining your bladder. J&B Medical Supply has all of these catheters available and your insurance may cover part or all of the cost.

  • Intermittent Straight Catheter: an intermittent catheter with a straight tip. Available in 16” length or 10” length. An intermittent catheter can be used to empty the bladder at regular intervals.
  • Intermittent Coudé Tip Catheter: an intermittent catheter with a coudé tip. Available in 16” length or 10” length.An intermittent catheter can be used to empty the bladder at regular intervals.
  • Hydrophilic Intermittent Catheter: an intermittent catheter that is coated with lubricant that is activated with water before using. An intermittent catheter can be used to empty the bladder at regular intervals.
  • Closed System Catheter: an intermittent catheter that is within a pouch, preventing the need to be touched by the hands during catheterization. An intermittent catheter can be used to empty the bladder at regular intervals.
  • Indwelling Catheter: also known as a Foley Catheter, an indwelling catheter stays within the bladder for constant drainage of the urine.
  • External Male Catheter: also known as a Condom or Texas catheter, an external male catheter is used as a sheath to direct any leakage from the bladder into an external collection device or drain bag.

Your physician may prescribe one or more of the urological accessories below to assist in draining your bladder. J&B Medical Supply has all of these supplies available and your insurance may cover part or all of the cost.

  • Gloves
  • Insertion Kits – the insertion kits that J&B carries include: tray, saline filled syringe, 1 pair of gloves, 1 waterproof drape, 1 drape with opening, 1 packet of lubricant and 3 PVP swabsticks. These are commonly prescribed for insertion of an indwelling catheter.
  • Irrigation Syringes – available in bulb or enteral
  • Drain Bags – J&B carries both bedside bags, which tend to be larger, and leg bags, which are smaller and can be worn.
